The popularity of all things Hamilton is hard to beat in the history community at the moment and the Virginia Beach History Museums are hosting an event to take advantage of the public's interest in the people and circumstances surrounding the infamous duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. The RSV is searching for volunteers willing to come out in period attire to talk about the life and times of people living during the early 19th century to supplement the program which includes professional interpreters portraying Burr and Hamilton, discussing their perspectives, and 'reliving' the duel itself. If you do not wish to volunteer but would like to attend the performances, tickets ($12/person) may be purchased through the Virginia Beach History Museum's website at http://www.museumsvb.org/event/hamilton-burr-duel/. We ask that volunteers register no later than October 31.
Help us bring in the holiday season at historic Hope Plantation in Windsor, North Carolina. The RSV is seeking volunteers willing to assist in demonstrating period dance to the visitors of the Plantation's annual open house. When not dancing, volunteers will be allowed to tour Hope Plantation (c. 1803) and the 18th century King-Bazemore House which is also on the property, take a horse-drawn carriage ride, visit the kitchen for freshly-made biscuits and otherwise enjoy the festivities. Period costume for this event is required. Please let us know that you will be joining us by registering no later than December 5.
