Would you be able to spare a day or two out of your week to help instill a love of history in young people?

Historic Hope Plantation (Windsor, NC) is hosting its Living History Days on Monday, March 21 and Thursday, March 24.  The RSV has often sent a contingent to participate.  In the past, we have spoken to the kids about clothing during the early 19th century, given dancing demonstrations, and taught games.

If you can assist with this program, please let us know as soon as possible by registering on the events page.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via e-mail at info@varegency.org.

The bulk of the events for 2016 have (at last!) been posted and registration is open for all but a few (pending additional information).  There will be some more added (we're waiting on date confirmations for the Victory Ball and are hoping to stick a "Buy/Sell/Trade" fair in there somewhere), so be sure to watch your e-mail for notices!  (Not a member?  Join our mailing list to keep up with us!)

Also, even if an event is free to attend, PLEASE REGISTER!  I cannot stress to you how much it assists those of us who are helping to organize these events--and it is to your benefit as it will let us know who to contact should we receive information that needs to be shared or have to cancel at the last minute.  Members, don't forget to log in before you register.  It will save you the hassle of filling out the forms as well as allow you to get access to member pricing where there is a discount (or advanced registration...*cough*Ladies Retreat*cough*).  As an added bonus, after you attend, you will have a nice little record in your profile of all the events that you attended! :)

Looking forward to spending 2016 enjoying the early 19th century with you!

We're thrilled to announce that another vendor has been added to our growing-list of "Member Friendly Merchants".

RSV member, Rebecca Burnham, is launching her new millinery which features both ready- and custom-made hats that aren't your run-of-the-mill toppers.  She is very kindly offering a 10% discount on her ready-made collection to RSV members.  (Don't see anything that floats your boat or you are looking for something in a different color?  Consider commissioning her to produce something more to your liking!)

"Shocking Bad Hats" has already acquired a number of happy customers within the RSV and we are so appreciative that members will have an extra incentive to support the business venture of one of their fellow members.   Click on the picture to visit the "Shocking Bad Hats" Facebook page to see some of the available offerings!

This is just a brief reminder that anyone wishing to run for one of the offices on the RSV board for the 2016-2017 year needs to get their name in by December 15, 2015!  Please submit your name and the position you wish to run for to info@varegency.org.  After that time, we will begin the balloting!

If you have any questions or wish to learn more about the various positions, don't hesitate to contact the RSV at info@varegency.org.

Have you seen the Member Chatter section of our website?  It's where current members of the RSV can discuss a variety of topics from War of 1812 history and clothing pattern reviews to finding a ride to the next event.  You can even subscribe to particular topics (or the entire forum, if you like!) to get e-mail notifications when another post has been made!

We've reorganized the pages somewhat to help make this part of the website easier to navigate as we transition away from our other forum.  (In other words, if you're looking for a topic that you posted earlier, it's probably just on another page.)  Keeping all forum activity here on the website will reduce the amount of duplication and administration for our volunteers as well as reduce the number of passwords our members need to remember. ;)

We encourage you to save any posts on the old forum that you would like to save prior to the end of the year.  And don't forget to post in the Member Chatter section of our website!  We'd love to get to know you between events, too!

If you're interested in Regency bling, don't miss our upcoming event, Jewelry in the Early 19th Century, on October 18.  This event, hosted in conjunction with the Southeastern Virginia Region chapter of JASNA, will feature Kimberly Walters, proprietress of RSV Member-Friendly Merchant K. Walters at the Sign of the Gray Horse, who will discuss Regency jewelry trends.  She will also have pieces of her reproduction period jewelry available for sale and is generously offering a discount of 15% off any purchase of $30 or more to those who attend.  In addition, she will be giving away a necklace inspired by an 1814 fashion plate to one lucky attendee.  You must be present to get the discount or win the necklace--and you certainly must be there to get some great information on accessorizing in the early 19th century!  Period attire is welcome but not required.

Get more information on this event and register to let us know to expect you by visiting the Jewelry in the Early 19th Century event listing.
