Wondering what the RSV has in store this year?  Wonder no more!  Several of our planned events have been posted on our Events page with more on the way.  Included in the upcoming events are the return of Regency dance practices in Portsmouth as well as old favorites such as the Ladies' Retreat and the Victory Ball.  Most of the events are open for registration, too, so you can let us know you'll be there!

We also have the minutes from the RSV Annual meeting posted here for those who would like to review them.  Thanks again to everyone who attended the meeting and contributed their comments!

If you were disappointed to miss out on discounted tickets to this Saturday's outing to see "Sense and Sensibility" at the Wells Theater, here's another chance!  We have a couple of tickets available (to be purchased together or individually) and have reopened registration so that any interested parties can snag them!  Go to the event listing here on the website to purchase the tickets.  Act quickly since we have to turn in our seating arrangements this evening so this opportunity is only available until this afternoon (Thursday, January 30)!  Hope to see you there!

The Regency Society of Virginia's annual business meeting will be held in Williamsburg on Saturday, February 8, 2020, beginning at 1:00PM.  We'll be meeting in the Community Room at Riverside Doctors' Hospital to review 2019, announce many of our planned 2020 events, and conclude with our traditional "Buy/Sell/Trade" event.  This is the same date as the "Mini Market" hosted by Burnley and Trowbridge (along with RSV Member-Friendly Merchants, Dames a la Mode and Redthreaded), so make plans to stay in Williamsburg following the meeting to take advantage of some great shopping!  Admission to the annual meeting is free but your registration is greatly appreciated!  Click here to let us know that you'll be joining us!

Did you know that your Victory Ball ticket includes a "crash course" on the afternoon of the event so that you can have the figures fresh in your mind for the evening?  (What? You haven't gotten your ticket yet?  Be sure to purchase it by October 26 as they can't be purchased at the door! Click here to buy now!)  Join our dancing master, Mr. Charles Steplively, for this last-minute practice session the afternoon of the ball.  Dress is modern casual (be sure to wear comfortable shoes that will not easily come off).  The practice will be held at the Country Club of Petersburg ballroom from 12:30pm - 2:30pm on Saturday, November 2 and no RSVP is required for ticket-holders.  We look forward to seeing you there!

The weather is starting to cool off a bit here in the Old Dominion and it gets us thinking about our cooler weather events!  We've recently added a familiar favorite: the Christmas Open House at Hope Plantation.  Volunteers are needed to assist with a dance demonstration in the early afternoon after which you may take your leave or take part in the various activities around the grounds of the house.  Cooking demonstrations, carriage rides, live music, house tours, and more await you!  Please be sure to register by November 30!

We have also had a few members add items to our Member Marketplace, our member-to-member "store" on the member side of our website.  Be sure to check out the new items to find a deal on Regency attire, accessories, and more.  (You must be logged in to access the member side of the site.)  Have a period-appropriate item that you wish to sell?  Visit the Member Marketplace for details on how to post your item!

We're looking for volunteers to walk with us in Smithfield's annual Christmas Parade, scheduled for the morning of Saturday, December 21.  There is no fee to march in the parade but we do require that volunteers be capable of walking the parade route (about one mile) and wear early 19th century attire.  To make sure that you get all of the latest information on participating, be sure to register by December 16!

Our members are the best part of our organization and we love to hear about their achievements--particularly when it involves history!  So, we want to give a shout out to one of our own, Michelle Hamilton, for her newly published book, Etiquette in Jane Austen's England!  Congratulations, Michelle, and may you enjoy great success!
