Active members of the Regency Society of Virginia can now post period-related items that they wish to sell, trade, or give away on a new page in the "Members Only" section of the website dubbed the "Member Marketplace."  For those members just getting started in the hobby (or for those just looking for a bargain!), we hope that this will be a great way of finding new and gently used goods to assist in your enjoyment of the period.  Clothing, fabric, accessories, books and more are welcome.  All we require is that the items posted are relevant to the period.  For more information about how you can post your items, contact us at info@varegency.org

If you would like to join us for the visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts' exhibit, "Napoleon: Power and Splendor," on August 18, be sure to register by this Monday, August 6.  Tickets for the visit are just $12/person (a discount from normal admission) and is free for those VMFA members who provide their member number with their registration.  The museum has also given us permission to attend in period attire, although it is not required.

Due to a technical issue on the software developer's side, we arrived at our website this afternoon to discover it to be a jumbled mess.  We are doing our best to get all back in order to provide our members and guests with a more organized website experience as soon as possible.  On the plus side, the digital disaster has provided us with the impetus to go ahead and give our site a little bit of a face lift, so things may look a bit different around here.  Rest assured, though, all the content is still available and, although the aesthetics might be a bit off, none of the functionality of the site (such as event registration or membership transactions) should be impacted.  Your patience as we clean up is greatly appreciated!

Sadly, the weather forecast is being very uncooperative and we have determined that we will not be going forward with the Sunday, June 3, picnic at Colvin Run Mill.   As the response has been great for this event, however, we are hoping to reschedule it for the same location at some point in the future.  We apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment but hope that we will have the opportunity to see you at another of our upcoming events soon!

Today is the last day that you can ensure that you will be able to have a space on next year's excursion to a full roster of Regency era sites!  While the travel agency has agreed to attempt to include anyone who comes along at a later date, it will be on a space-available basis and, after May 31, they can make no guarantees that folks can be accommodated.  So don't miss out and get those deposits in so you can enjoy touring Bath, Jane Austen's House, the Historic Portsmouth Dockyards, Brighton's Royal Pavilion, and more with others who enjoy the early 19th century as much as you do!  To get the full line-up of highlights and to find the link to the travel agency so that you can make your deposit, be sure to visit our 2019 Group Trip to the UK site page!

As many of our regular attendees to the Regency Dance Practice scheduled for this Friday, May 18, will be attending the 1818 Wedding at Caledon State Park the following morning, we have decided to cancel this week's Regency dance practice.

Please join us for our next regularly scheduled dance practice on Friday, June 1.  Click here to register for the June 1 practice now!

We've been excited about the turnout that we've had for our dance practices...so we've extended dance practice dates through the summer!   There are plenty of dates and you don't have to attend every single one of them to get something out of the practices.  Plus, as we get closer to the fall, we'll be practicing dances on the program for the Victory Ball.  If you'd like to take part in any of these free, beginner-friendly practices, be sure to head over to the Events calendar and register for the date or dates you'd like to attend!

For those of you in Northern Virginia, we're pleased to announce that our spring picnic is to be held at the beautiful Colvin Run Mill park in Great Falls!  Join us on Sunday, June 3 for an afternoon of food, family, and fun.  Those who register and attend in period attire will be offered a tour of the working mill (which will be grinding grain the day of our visit) for free.  Period attire, however, is not required to attend the picnic and regular admission will apply for those who wish to attend in modern clothing and take a tour of the mill.  Be sure to register to let us know that you'll be attending by visiting the event listing here.

The other event that we've added is a group outing to see the Virginia Museum of Fine Art's new exhibition, Napoleon: Power and Splendor.  This exhibition features items from the Imperial Household shedding new light on how Napoleon's image was crafted.  Registration for this event is required and the museum has given us permission to attend in period attire if we so choose.  VMFA members can also register with the group at no charge provided that they submit their membership number at the time of their registration.  Join the group to see what promises to be a feast for an early 19th century enthusiast's eyes by visiting the event listing here.
