We've got the bulk of our 2017 calendar up on the Events page!  In addition to multiple volunteer opportunities, old favorites like the Ladies' Retreat and the Victory Ball are back.  We're also exploring taking a group trip to the UK in 2019, so if you're interested in possibly going, be sure to register so that you can get updates via e-mail.  There will be more events going up and several events whose registrations are not currently open will be soon.

We hope to see you often in 2017!

Join us on February 4 as we learn about the life experienced by the enslaved population at James and Dolley Madison's Montpelier.  The RSV will be meeting at the Ettrick-Matoaca Library for a presentation hosted by the Chesterfield County Public Library System.  Ms. Charmain Crowell-White will discuss life on the plantation from the perspective of Sukey, a slave woman owned by the Madisons.  Registration is required to see what promises to be a fascinating one-woman show.  If you would like to register with the RSV, please do so by January 22.  (Miss the deadline?  No worries!  You can still attend by registering as an individual through February 3 through the Chesterfield County Public Library website.)

If you want a quick look at all of the things that we did over the course of 2016, be sure to visit our "Past Events" page for a video synopsis of the year.

Once again, thank you to all of the members and friends who helped to make 2016 another successful RSV year!  We look forward to seeing you throughout 2017!

Since much of Virginia is going to be dealing with snowfall this weekend, we have determined that it would be in the best interest of our members to reschedule our Twelfth Night Dinner.  Therefore, we will be celebrating Twelfth Night a week later, on January 14, at the Hanover Tavern.

If you registered for the original date and will be unable to make it, please contact us at info@varegency.org by January 8 to let us know how you wish your refund to be handled.

We have also reopened registration until January 8 so that anyone who may be able to join us now may do so!  Visit the event listing to register!

When are membership fees and application due for 2017?

  • 01/04/2017 11:06 AM | Anonymous

We are keeping an eye on the weather and trying to develop contingencies for our Twelfth Night gathering should snow and ice interfere.  If you have already registered for Twelfth Night, you should have received an email with a link to a brief questionnaire regarding cancellation or rescheduling.  Please be certain to respond as soon as possible!

Once we have received responses and discussed possible arrangements with Hanover Tavern, we will get back in touch with those of you who have registered for the original event.

In the midst of your celebrations of the season, don't forget to register for our annual Twelfth Night Dinner.   Join us on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the historic Hanover Tavern for an evening of period entertainment, excellent food, and even more excellent company!  Your registration ($45/members; $60/non-members) includes all non-alcoholic beverages, fresh bread, salad, your choice of one of three entrees (filet mignon, sauteed crab cakes, or orecchiette), roasted potatoes, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, and dessert.  A social hour will begin at 5:30pm and dinner will start around 6:30pm.

You must pre-register in order to join us and registration closes on December 31, 2016.  Click here to register.

We look forward to spending our first event of 2017 with you!

Due to concerns about the weather during the hours that our volunteers would have been traveling to Poplar Forest, we have chosen to lean on the side of safety and cancel our participation in the Holidays at Poplar Forest this year.

As the event is hosted by Poplar Forest and not the RSV, the event itself will still take place so members who still wish to attend may do so with the understanding that there will be no dancing demonstration.

Please be safe and we will see you in the upcoming new year!

Join us in Williamsburg on Saturday, January 21 for our annual business meeting.  We'll be reviewing our successes and asking where we can improve as well as going over our calendar for 2017.

In addition to our organizational business, we've added a new element to our meeting this year: a buy/sell/trade time!  If you're looking to declutter your reenacting closet, bookshelves, or fabric stash, bring in your new or gently used "items of interest" (just make certain that it has something to do with the period!) to offer for give-away, trade, or sale.  If you're trying to get a Regency wardrobe together at a discount, this is could be a great opportunity to do so!

Be sure to register (log in first if you're a member!) and we look forward to seeing you there!

We've been contacted by the organizers for the historic marker dedication remembering the May 1811 President-Little Belt Affair.  They are hoping to find a few willing parties to attend their dedication in period attire on Sunday, November 6.  If you are available to assist in bringing a little of the early 19th century to life at this event, please register
